Immersion Cruising Course
15 June 2013
Why didn't I think of this sooner?
Immersion classes are a big thing these days. You can fly to Italy for immersion cooking or to France for immersion language classes. Heck, you can even take farming and ranching classes that will really have you shoveling! So I am thinking I could cash in on this. I can offer a cruising/boat maintenance immersion class. People can pay to come and stay on our boat, and leave a week later with a real knowledge of the life aboard. I will show them how to polish the stainless steal, how to care for the teak including cleanng, oiling and varnishing, what to use to wipe down the boat with to prevent mold and mildew. I can give them constructive critisism as they do the work. Learning to cook in a 3 by 5 foot space should be extra fun for them. Cleaning the boat's bottom and topsides can be considered water activities.
Steve will let them change the oil and clean the bilge. He can supervise the cleaning and repair of the head discharge lines, the replacement of belts and filters and inspecting and cleaning holding tanks. For an extra charge they can upgrade to the ultimate 10 day package which includes fixing broken motor mounts, replacing starters and heat exchangers and re-engineering exhaust lines.
At the end of each day we will mentor them on pain relievers and pain killers and when to use each (the later being a rum drink).
If I had implemented this sooner we could have sat back for the last 10 days and watched our paying customers relish in the true meaning of the cruising life, which has been described as boat maintenance in exotic places. As a bonus the income from them would have offset our expenses. I would even have time to update the blog during the process instead of being too exhausted to type.
I like it! Just send an email for reservations.
