Woo hoo!
31 August 2009 | St. Lucia
The test drive is underway! We've had Island Spirits III (soon to be Azure II) for 5 days. The boat is awesome. We've sailed her down wind, reaching and to weather. We've anchored, gotten mooring balls and checked out 4 different locations in St. Lucia. All outings have been learning experiences. It turns out that I'm not an excellent driver yet, e.g. I thought I was in neutral as I was fast approaching another boat in the anchorage - scared that guy! RJ and Leo are not only having a blast (snorkeling, rope swinging from palm trees and jumping off the boat) but they are also are essential to the operation of the boat. Leo was born to climb up the mast to zip up the sail cover. RJ is getting muscles grinding and is great at steering the boat, and they both need to throw lines when we get mooring balls.
Right now it is early morning in Marigot Bay, St. Lucia. Rodney is making the local bread on the BBQ (kind of like scones), Leo is awake and ready to go, and RJ is still sleeping. It is quiet, except for the tropical birds, the soft slapping of the water and Leo slurping his Apple Jacks.
The weather has been hot and humid with occasional rain, but we're swimming all the time which keeps us cool. We'll be going to Rodney Bay to haul out the boat until our trip begins in Nov/Dec. Photo's and details when we return next week.
Cheers! Jane, Rodney, RJ and Leo
