Bashing, banging, & barfing
14 December 2009 | Holding on.....
The lack of birds should have been our first clue to stay put. Leaving the calm anchorage we were unaware of the gale warnings. The last passage I described was pleasant compared to the free fall (catch your stomach) and slam carnival ride we were on. 25-40 knots. Humungous waves. The radio system to check weather was not set up, but we have learned that we need to check the weather for these island passages! I took a ginger tablet and was spared from upset stomach- the boys, not so much. Rodney the sailorman was in his element (think of the vet in Forest Gump.) We are now in a spectacular bay in the northern part of Dominca. The bay is 3 miles wide with amazing green rolling hills. Native, natural, a bit wild. We did a fantastic snorkel today and have hired a river guide for tomorrow. Ahhh.
