Look'in slick on Day 6
22 May 2010 | The boat
Rodney
Last night the wind died at about 3am as expected so we started up the engine. We just need to make 5 knots of boat speed to stay on schedule. It was a beautiful morning with mirror glass seas - or as we like to call it "Flat as a pancake on the open grill".
When I went on deck, I was shocked to see CR - not in his normal foul weather gear, but wearing only shorts. He was taking advantage of the calm seas to take a shower. Everyone thought this was a great idea, so all of us took showers (see Jamie above!) Then we all looked and smelled so good that we could not stand the dirty boat we were sailing - so we all hosed and scrubbed and sponged until all the little black hairs (CR) were gone. Wow! - We all said - the boat looks great!
Jamie spotted a sailboat on our starboard side around noon today. It was great to call them on the VHF and chat a little. They were a German couple just finishing their 3 year circumnavigation. The name of their boat is Boela Brisa which means beautiful breeze in French. They get a kick from the fact that they have a Neatherland boat, with a French name and they are German. They also thought it was funny that we have a South African boat with a French name and we are American. It so happens they are also going to Flores in the Azores - so now we have a buddy to sail with. It is funny who you meet in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
This morning we had some yummy home made pancakes. Hal loves to make pancakes so we helped him with his passion. Tonight is my famous chili with chopped onions, graded cheddar and some sour cream - always a crowd pleaser.
Did you hear the story about the sailing trip a Chemical, Electrical and Civil Engineer took with the furniture guy? It's a pretty funny story....man we are getting punchy out here.
