It's catch up time for the blog....we're backtracking to share more detail on Mallorca & Menorca. First Mallorca.
We spent the last two weeks of August in magnificent Mallorca. The steep hills, clear water and the capital, Palma, were all wonderful. We visited primarily the west side of the island. First in Puerto Andraitx, then the little island of Dragonera and lastly Port de Soller. Drangonera is a small island with no inhabitants, and is a nature reserve. We seem to be drawn to the top of high hills and earned the view by doing the 3 hour trek. We left the southern area of the island and went on Port Soller in the west. Boats filled the anchorage, but we were able to squeeze in to a great spot. From the port, we were able to take a short 20 minute open air tram ride to the quaint town of Soller. When in Soller you must try "Orange Sollers." They grow oranges in Mallorca and make an organic orange sorbet. Combine the sorbet with fresh squeezed orange juice, light whippped cream, a dash of chocolate sauce w/ a cookie -mmm. Add in a charming european plaza to sip them and all is good! We loved these and walked the 2 kilometers into Soller to get another! From Soller we rode the historic 1912 Victorian train to the capital of Mallorca - Palma, chugging over mountains, hanging on during twist and turns - it was way better than a Disney ride. We like our tasty beverages and in Palma we visited an old dairy cafe and had the best hot chocolate in Spain - it was like drinking a candy bar. In Port de Soller we actually met a few other American boats and an English boat (Revolution) w/ Wesley a 9 year old new friend. Although we've met locals, it was great to have camaraderie with our country men.
