Day four what a bore

The last 24 hours have been very trying -1400 miles from Hawaii. The high pressure system has dropped down on us and we are becalmed. the most wind we have seen today is 7 knots. Most of the time it is around 3 knots. So we are just pointing the boat toward Kaneohe and moving at 2 knots. Our only chance to sail is if a squall comes through.
We did have a few squalls yesterday and unfortunately one took my brand new Tilly Hat - I really liked that hat. Since we have so much sunshine we are doing some boat chores to dry everything out and get ready for the last part of the race. We should get some wind by noon tomorrow so we can start to sail and put down some miles. Our main competition - California Girl has dropped way south to try to get the first wind. We are thinking of doing the same - just in case.
Yesterday we only made 116 miles toward Hawaii and tomorrow will be way less. The lack of wind may add two days to our journey so it is looking like the 21st for our arrival. Tonight we are looking forward to Turkey Tetrazini with a sea breeze over ice. I am very happy that our freezer is keeping our ice frozen. There is nothing better on a boat that a good ice cube....maybe sails too.
We have been very surprised with the huge amount of garbage that is floating out here. We have seen at least 20 fishing balls from Japan. Each item we see go by has it own ecosystem of clams, crabs and other creatures. The crabs out here actually swim along the surface of the water, and since we are going so slow, one jumped his ship and headed for our boat to hitch a ride. The poor little guy just could not make it and headed back to wait for another pillaging opportunity.
