Blowing like a Mother

14 May 2013 | Chesapeake Bay
Called home, wished mom a Happy Mother's Day and then....went sailing! Exited Jackson Creek headed for Stingray Point with light winds 3-5 kts out of the north east. Adjusted course to the south east and headed off towards Gywnn's Island and beyond. As some local weather moved through the area, we could see rain back to the west and a dark, ominous cloud moving down the center of the bay. In short order winds built from the leisurely 3-5 kts to 11-15 kts with gusts to 18-19 kts. Quickly we could see the tree line on the eastern shore was clearly in focus while the western shore was but a haze on the horizon. A quick tack and a beam reach helped move Incorrigible smartly at 7 kts back toward Stingray Point, before luffing up, engaging the auto pilot, dropping the main and ducking back inside Jackson Creek and Fishing Bay Yacht Club. Just a phenomenal day sail with some close friends.

Spring Sail

02 May 2013 | Stingray Point
27 April, a Saturday afternoon sail with 5 friends and 3 new crew members on Incorrigible. First time out with the new North Sails 130 Genoa, we spent some time tuning the sail and adjusting the cars. Upwind in < 5 kts which grew to 8 kts as the sea breeze filled in. Down wind we sailed along at 4 kts, ghosting past boats with shorter waterlines and less sail area. Not a better way to spend four hours on a Saturday afternoon on the Chesapeake Bay!

Spring Commissioning

11 April 2013 | Fishing Bay Yacht Club
Home at last, On the 1st of April, INCORRIGIBLE moved across Jackson Creek from Deltaville Boatyard to Fishing Bay Yacht Club. Steering cables were tensioned and the new water muffler was checked during the sea trial. Her full keel made steering in tight quarters very difficult, especially with a westerly wind coming down Jackson Creek, add a short handed crew so thus we ended up secured bow in! But she is home!

Paint!

11 April 2013 | DBY
Well after a long but temperate Winter and a prolonged attempt by Spring to arrive, INCORRIGIBLE's hull is finally painted and she is back in the water residing at her new home at Fishing Bay Yacht Club. Many thanks to Sean and all the folks at DBY this winter getting repairs done and helping with getting her back in the water on the 1st of this month!

Bottom Prep

28 February 2013 | Deltaville Boatyard
With a couple of days of sanding under my belt, getting closer and closer to paint and running gear preparations before getting back in the water for another year of sailing!

Steering Repaired

14 January 2013 | Deltaville Boatyard
After two months in Deltaville Boatyard (DBY), Deltaville, VA. Incorrigible's rudder is straight and the wheel is marked at 12 o'clock again. New 6" Edson steering idler sheaves were installed with a new FRP pedestal base plate was fabricated, gel coated and painted and the pedestal was repainted before being reinstalled on Incorrigible. At the same time a new water muffler shelf was fiber glassed in and a new water muffler installed. A small 1-1.5" divot in the starboard forward hull below the waterline showed no intrusion and was ground out, filled, epoxied, and is ready for paint.
