Why leave a safe port when a storm will hit Norfolk on Friday night?
This weekend is the big Harborfest in Norfolk and a great excuse to just stay in place and head back home after the rains hit this weekend.
We have two mechanics on the boat now. Miguel, the Dominican and a man who specializes in checking your fuel to see if it is bad. The process is called "polishing" the fuel.
I am sitting in a trawler while the owner, Patti, is away. She is running the Tall Ship Parade tomorrow (before the storm hits). Last year's Operation Sail in Norfolk included the ship Bounty, which sank off shore during Hurricane Sandy, when she went out to sea and where a crew woman died. Staying here is the safest place. We will leave Saturday or Sunday. Patti is thinking of driving down to our place after the Harborfest finishes and using our place to finish the book she is writing as this place is not really conducive for concentrating. We are convincing her to move to Oriental, near us. She is living here as her Dad was ill. She bought her boat with the advance she received from the movie rights and lives aboard. Her husband is a pilot for Frontier Airlines and their home is in Denver. She is very young, 42, and has her life in front of her. He flies wherever she is when he can.
So the adventure is not over but we are on a floating dock and surrounded by able bodied neighbors.
More News to come.
