A little too shallow
02 December 2013
Dear All,
As we approached Jekyl Island marina last night we went through at low tide and registered 4 feet 6 inches. Our boat is designed for a draft of 4 foot 3 inches. We believe that with all our "stuff" on board, we probably added 1 or 2 inches. So we figured we scraped by one or two inches.
This morning as we prepared to cast off, the attached photo shows a shrimp boat, casting his nets only on one side in order to lean the boat to one side so that he has less draft AND gets his mast under the bridge!
He continued on the channel with this lean until he was out of sight...
Update on location: We are officially in Florida! Fernandina Beach, opposite Cumberland Island, where JFK Jr married Carolyn Bessett. Hooray for us, we can't believe we made it this far.
John and Diana on Rejoice.
