Catching up in Central Florida
09 December 2016 | Daytona - Halifax Harbor Yacht Club
We left St. Augustine on the ICW for Daytona with a slip reserved at the Halifax Harbor Yacht Club. We had been having some minor problems getting the batteries fully charged since leaving shore power at Charleston. Our concerns hadn't really showed up until we began motoring on the ICW. A rep for Magnum, the new Inverter/Charger was scheduled to meet us at Daytona to be sure it was working correctly. We arrived at Daytona after motor sailing most of the day, and went into a slip. The Yacht Club is a really lovely place, with a rich and colorful history within walking distance of the "strip" with excellent restaurants and even a place for Diana to have her nails done! The best part of the Yacht Club however, has to be the dockmaster, Peter. He does everything and then offers to do more. He showed us all around the club and made sure that we knew we were welcome. Definitely a place we would visit again. The Magnum rep came by the boat, tested everything, explained why we were having problems with charging and what we needed to do to repair the problem. After a few minor adjustments, and plans for an additional cable connection for the generator in the spring, we are all back happy again, generating power with full batteries. While at the Yacht Club, we also had regular visits from the Manatees that live in the lagoon. These giant mammals inhabit much of the inland waters of Florida and are jealously protected. They seem to always be around, but especially when you clean the boat or have water being spilled out, they swim directly under the water spouts, open their mouths and drink it in.
