Puffins galore

Puffins are such an odd little bird. They are just about one-third beak and their wings are so short that they have to beat them fast to stay aloft. They are excellent divers and can go very deep. They can hold up to 11 little fishes in their beak. Today we visited the Trishnish Islands, a well known spot for Puffins. Coming into the anchorage area, the fog was so thick we could not see the cliffs that were 200 feet away. Then it started to clear up. We sat down for lunch and by the time we finished, the fog had cleared off. We spent a wonderful three hours exploring the islands and taking pictures of the Puffins. They burrow into the dirt at the top of cliffs. We even were able to peer into some burrows and see their young. Definitely a day to remember!
