One day a week we are trying to explore a surrounding town. We now have bragging rights to say we went to Cambridge. The University is made up of 38 separate colleges. Students apply to a specific college, and matriculate from that college, but are able to take classes from other colleges. As you can imagine, there are strong, historical rivalries between some colleges. We rode a punt (flat-bottomed boat) along “The Backs” and heard all sorts of stories from the punt driver. We walked around town, dodging all the bicycles (students are not allowed to have cars) and explored the Fitzwilliam museum. We tried to visit the King’s College Chapel but just missed the last entrance. So we went to eat, came back and attended the service, which was free. It was dark, making it difficult to see the inside and could not see the stained-glass windows, but did get to hear the boys’ choir. To top off a great day, we went to the Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings concert. Wyman was a founding member and bass player of the Rolling Stones for 31 years. The concert was great and included Maria Muldaur as a guest star. However, we had to catch the last train to Ipswich (sound like a song title?) and had to miss the final songs.
