Canal Locks - 5 in a row!

All too soon we were at the bottom (oops, that should read southwestern end) of Loch Ness. This lake is very narrow - usually about a mile across, but very deep. The deepest sounding we had was 726 feet deep. If you took all the fresh water in Great Britain (outside of Loch Ness) it would not equal the amount of water in Loch Ness.
At the southern end of Loch Ness is Fort Augustus. This is a very busy tourist town. We had a series of 5 locks to go up and there were three other boats with us. We walked along the locks, dragging our boats to the next lock and then held onto the ropes as the boats would rise. All this with many people milling around us. People were fascinated with the boat that had crossed the Atlantic and would come up to talk. We met many people from the states. Quite the show. I can only wonder how many families we are now part of their photo album.
