Lots of time to explore Vigo. We have seen many art museums but today we went to the Museo del Mar, a museum about the sea. The photo is a sperm whale skeleton that had died and come ashore a couple of years ago in this area. If you look closely, you can see in the lower left corner a drawing of the skeleton with the outline of a complete sperm whale so you can see how it all fits together. The museum also had information on Charles Darwin, Jacque Costeau, SCUBA equipment, history of fishing in this area, some traditional boats and a large aquarium. So it was a good place to explore.
Some funny things about Vigo
- most places I go and hear music, is English music, just what you would hear in the states.
- most t-shirts have English wording.
- they frown on shorts and sandals in town, but yet seem to be okay with women being topless at the beach.
Yesterday two very large cruise ships were in port, very close to Nokomis. One of them in the largest in the world - holds over 9,000 people and the second one wasn't much smaller. Plus, a lot of people from around here came down to see the event. There were people all over the place! We hope it brings in a lot of business for the local small shops - by the end of the day most of the women were carrying shopping bags. Walking down the dock area we heard many different languages. Today they are gone and it seems so quiet!
