London

Paul and I just spent a fun-packed five days exploring London. The biggest highlight, for me, was walking up to the Royal Observatory and knowing I would see the four maritime clocks developed by Harrison. These were the first steps in sailors knowing their longitude, a very important step in safe navigation. We also saw the prime meridian, and kissed across the east/west divide. The meridian is a human construct, but is still the basis of all longitude navigation. The second highlight was watching Vanessa Redgrave and James Earl Jones in the Old Vic production of 'Much Ado About Nothing.' Such pros, even though Vanessa had been sick, and we had been warned that she would not be there, she was on stage with her handkerchief and carried on. The third highlight was having Thanksgiving dinner at the Mayflower Pub with other cruisers from the states. The fourth highlight was seeing the Constable paintings in several of the art museums. We had hiked on the Constable Country walk and taken many pictures of the wonderful scenery. We can now compare our pictures to his paintings. The list of highlights could carry on, but just be assured, London is all that it is cracked up to be.
