Tidal racing
15 August 2014 | le golfe du Morbihan

The weather has been really great, sunny and warm but not hot. Cool at night so we sleep well. We left the windy baie de Quiberon and went into the much calmer le golfe du Morbihan. It is called the little sea. This big area of water has a very small open to the baie. And this is the time of the super spring tides - it is a full moon and closest to the earth that it can get. We hit the opening at a full flood time in and it was quite the ride. We hit over 12 knots of speed. In the picture you can see some of the swirling water and check out the water action around the green can. We found a great spot to anchor on the east side of an island. Around both the north and south end of the island you can watch the water racing, but we are in a calm eddy. At one point we watched a sailboat, going full-sail and heeling over, come up to a narrow between two islands. It kept going slower and slower and finally was sailing backwards as the water caught it. I have never seen that before.
