Second day out
22 October 2014 | West of Lagoa De Obidos

Wednesday noon - out for 48 hours. Wind is mild and had to motor for a while. Today it is filling in nicely with a following wind and sea. Weather is nice, shorts in the day and pants and jacket overnight. There is currently a low west of the Canary Islands that seems to be sending us a lot of humidity. Lots of books loaded on my electronic reader and, amazingly, the ride is flat enough that I can read. Still in touch with some of the boats that left when we did, but we are spread out quite far apart. There are other sailboats that are amongst us, so we are not the last of the crowd heading south. We have been going by the edge of the continental shelf. Within 5 nautical miles the depth of the ocean drops from 450 feet all the way to 5,200 feet. Quite a cliff. Hoping to see whales around here, but no luck yet, just dolphins during the night.
