We Are Here - At Last!!
14 November 2007 | Village Cay Marina: Road Town Harbor, Tortola
We arrived at 6:30AM at the Village Cay Marina at Road Town. As we approached land the smell of fresh earth, flowers and coffee overwhelmed us. We were reminded of what sailors who are at sea for days at the time have said: and smells are very strong and wonderful. The Caribbean Cup organizers came to the dock to greet us and offered us a bottle of Champaign. We toasted at 7AM without having eaten anything. Even Daniel had little bit of Champaign - the first drink he has ever had.
It was a strange feeling getting off the boat as the cement dock felt like a floating dock. We spent the rest of the day taking showers (the first shower since we left Hampton), going to the restaurant, talking to other ralliers. In the evening we went to a "rum" party and had dinner with a wonderful couple from Crazy Horse - the second largest boat in the fleet (60 feet).
Daniel made a friend - a 12-year girl who lives with her parents aboard their boat. He spent the day swimming and playing with his new friend around the docks and checking out the numerous kinds of chickens, roosters, sea birds, lizards, etc. The roosters sang all morning long. He also met a lot of the people who have arrived and was invited to boats with dogs, an African Parrot, etc. Daniel is enjoying himself a lot.
