St Thomas - -Charlotte Amalie Harbor

On Tuesday, we left American Yacht Harbor marina in Redhook and sailed around St. Thomas to its main harbor port Charlotte Amalie. It was a "dream" sail with winds around 15 knots and a very clear day. Upon arriving, the harbor was filled with boats of all kinds, 3 large cruise ships, and, for more excitement, water planes landing every hour or so. The main ferry terminal in St. Thomas is located in this harbor as well. All of this made for a very interesting evening of watching ships come in and leave, try to anchor off the walking path along the harbor.
The harbor is also surrounded by hills with nice looking homes overlooking it. The largest was a white house with flags on one side which we presumed to be the governors house. It can be seen up in the middle of the hill on the picture shown above. Anchoring here was very nice. It is the second anchoring place since Anegada where we find more reasonable depths for anchoring - 12 feet deep.
