Guadeloupe - Deshaies
26 January 2008 | A View of the Bay of Deshaies from the Hill
Our sail to Guadeloupe's Deshaies bay was great. The waves had gone down significantly and we were able to make almost a straight shot into the north part of the island where we stayed for 2 nights. The town of Deshaies is a spectacular town, with red-roof houses (a French signature in the islands), quiet streets and church bells ringing along with roosters' songs in the morning and in the evening. We loved the feel of this town and the anchorage and decided to stay there for a couple of days. We had sailed together with our Danish friends (Optimus is their boat name) and with a couple who had come with us in the 1500 rally and whom we had also run into at Nevis (their boat name is: Folie a Deux). We mention boat names because that is how people call each other here when visiting or passing by - first, by the boat name. The town is fairly small with about 2-3 long streets of restaurants, shops, 1 post office and 1 bank. In the evenings we got together with our friends in our boat and theirs for dinner and sunset views.
