Sailing around the Caribbean

In 2007 our family sailed from the Chesapeake Bay to the Caribbean, visiting most of the islands and stopping in Cartagena, Colombia for hurricane season. We just returned to the Chesapeake after visiting many Central American countries and islands.

Guadeloupe The Carnival at Pointe a Pitre

03 February 2008 | At the Grande Parade on Sunday
We ran into a couple we had met in the Caribbean 1500 rally and with whom we had made good friends in the BVIs - Pattie and Tim (boat name Tevai). They had been here for some time and knew the island and the good places to visit. They also told us that the 3rd largest carnival, after the one in Rio and New Orleans, was being celebrated in the Caribbean islands starting on Sunday February 3. So we ventured out on Sunday to watch the Grand Parade which started at 2PM and ended after 6PM. It was quite a spectacular display of customs and of the people who inhabit this island. The islands' population distribution is about 67% mulatos, 25% or so black and only about 2% white. People are very good looking with golden skins, great hairs and shapely figures. The carnival was dazzling with glitter and beauty and Daniel was delighted to watch the second carnival he has ever been to (the first one was the one in DC's China Town). We took over 100 pictures and have posted a few of them in a web album. For view click on the following link:
