St. Lucia: Marigot Bay
09 March 2008 | Sunset at Soufriere
We had heard that Marigot Bay was a spectacular anchorage that was used by the English to hide from the French when they were fighting to gain control of the island. One story tells of an English Admiral to have hidden its fleet in this bay by disguising the masts of the boats - they tied coconut fronds in the rigging. The French were fooled and proceeded to sail south past Marigot.
Marigot is indeed a spectacular anchorage. We took a mooring ball right next to the dock and spent the next 2 days enjoying our stay among green hills and gorgeous sunsets. We took a public bus to Castries one day to visit the market and buy provisions for our boat. From the hill leading to the main road and to the small town, the views of the bay were breathtaking. We also had good internet access so Daniel was able to do his schooling. Unfortunately our digital camera got some salt water and so we lost the pictures we took in this wonderful place.
