Sailing around the Caribbean

In 2007 our family sailed from the Chesapeake Bay to the Caribbean, visiting most of the islands and stopping in Cartagena, Colombia for hurricane season. We just returned to the Chesapeake after visiting many Central American countries and islands.

Bequia: Port Elizabeth

02 April 2008 | Port Elizabeth, Bequia
The small city off Admiralty Bay, Port Elizabeth, is very picturesque with many restaurants, boutiques and shops. We went ashore the next day and docked our dingy at the Tradewinds Yacht Club on the north side of the bay. It was about 11 AM and the sun was high in the sky and very hot! Nonetheless, we walked to the south end of the bay looking for a place to eat a bite and to our delight we found the first Mexican Restaurant we have seen since leaving the US. We had been talking about eating Mexican food for a while and jumped at the opportunity to quench our thirst for Mexican food. Afterwards we continued down to the south-end of the bay and discovered the Gingerbread hotel & restaurant, a beautiful building with an outside public sitting area of benches and trees, overlooking the bay.
We spent the next 2 days coming to this area as Kim and Daniel took the first class of PADI Diving training. Maria decided to pass up diving as the thought of 30-50 or more feet of water over her head does not appeal to her. Rather, she spent time at the Gingerbread sitting area catching up on emails and Internet duties.
