Sailing around the Caribbean

In 2007 our family sailed from the Chesapeake Bay to the Caribbean, visiting most of the islands and stopping in Cartagena, Colombia for hurricane season. We just returned to the Chesapeake after visiting many Central American countries and islands.

Dangriga, Belize – Only Boat at Anchor in its Large Bay

21 April 2009 | Dangriga Harbor -Daniel doing school work!
The day following our whale shark sighting we felt "complete" and decided to sail off to Dangriga, a small town 35 nautical miles south of Belize city, to check into the country. We had been told bad stories about checking into Belize City and were trying to avoid the cumbersome and expensive paper work. Unfortunately, we could only check in with immigration as customs was only open on Monday's and it was a Tuesday!

Kikuyu was the only boat anchored off the town for the night. The anchorage did not have much protection and we faced north the entire night which, to our good fortune, was calm. The next day we set sail for Belize City to clear customs and get our alternator fixed.
