Dan- hot and tropical
After a great trip to see family and friends, get some real work done, and pick up boat parts we are back aboard Papillon!
I like to think she missed us, but if she did, she is being a petulant child with additional chores for us on the agenda.
Actually, she weathered the time apart pretty well, major things were chainplate leakage and the wind generator blade tips getting a trim.
We had a great flight on Avianca airlines from LAX- straight shot into San Salvador of about 5 hours on a very nice ½ empty A321, movie selection was great- finally watched Transcendence, and the beer and wine were free.
We did come back with some gear, all for the boat, and had some trepidation over customs (Aduana).
The immigration was first- a rather dour lady took our request to enter very seriously as we had no return or onward ticket. A little smiling, a bit of pidgin Spanish, a couple of visits from her supervisor, and 20$ later we were stamped and in.
Then to the luggage carousel to pick up our four rather large duffels- about 220 lbs in all. We load those on to a couple of luggage carts and approach the Aduana desk. A less dour, but very bored agent asked if we had anything to declare- standard response of “Just parts for our sailboat” and we approached the red light/green light button……..Green! Happiness and joy for us and the agent!
Stepping through there you are in the rental car area where we were met by the crew from Alamo and whisked away to their office to pick up our ride- a four door, 4wd, diesel Mazda pickup. A strange ride for a rental car.
A very deserted road back to the Bahia later and we are home.
