The Journey Begins

03 October 2012 | Mission Bay, San Diego
Trish
It’s time! We’re trucking our 41 foot sailboat, Mariah, to Texas! Yikes! After much consideration, we have decided that we really can’t spare the time to sail all the way through the Panama Canal and up to the Gulf Coast due to the fact that John still has a contract to work for several more months. And we don’t want to wait another year for hurricane season to end. So, the plan is to leave next week for Rockport, Texas, re-commission Mariah and begin our journey along the Gulf Coast toward Key West.
We have a one and a half year plan: For the next six months, we will cruise the Gulf Coast, see New Orleans and spend as much time as possible in Key West. Then, as Hurricane Season approaches, we will cruise up the East Coast of the US and spend the summer somewhere between South Carolina and Maine. Once Hurricane Season is again over, next November, we will cruise back down the coast and go through the Bahamas and the Caribbean. Once Hurricane Season again begins (June 2014), we will either go through the Panama Canal and head to Tahiti/New Zealand/Australia/South Africa or head east across the Atlantic to Europe and the Mediterranean.
Anyway, that’s our plan at the moment. The important thing to note here, is that we are leaving San Diego and Mission Beach behind for the foreseeable future and that means that we will miss all of you terribly. We hope that you will come to meet us in some fabulous port of call and stay with us on Mariah. We will post blogs periodically and hope that you enjoy following us along on our adventures into the deep (and shallow) blue. Thanks so much for your encouragement, inspiration and prayers.
