19 months & counting
Trenten Reef Paul turned 19 months yesterday and I can hardly believe how quickly the time has past since his birth in Papeete, Tahiti. We have been on quite an adventure, as always.

Papeete, Tahiti
We are anchored off marina Taina in Papeete, the main city on the island of Tahiti. This is the only 'big city' (250,000) we have seen in several months. Colca Canyon, Peru
We stayed at a hotel with warm natural hotsprings at about 12,000 ft. We could feel the altitude but it helped a great deal to stay in Arequipa at 7,500 ft before our arrival. At the peak we passed over a snow packed 15,400 ft peak. When i got out of the car i almost fainted from moving! The Colca valley was very warm during the day but dropped off to about 50 degrees after dark. We warmed ourselves in the springs under one of the most spectacular night skies i have ever seen. The canyon is remote so there isnt much ambient light - perfect for star gazing in the hotsprings!
The following afternoon we toured the various sights of the canyon. We were able to spot two increasingly rare Condors riding the thermals. From what i understand there were more than 100,000 ancient inhabitants that created the agricultural terraces in this valley. The area is massive and it was literatly from river bed to mountain top with hand laid stone.
The area is full of archeological remains - it is hard to comprehend the years it must have taken to accomplish the mastery of agriculture in this country. Handed down by generation and witnessing it happening as we drive by today - unbelievable.
