All 3 of us departed Don Juan today; Jay/Barb for Tiburon and pulling the boat at San Carlos for the season; Linda/Craig for Rocky Point; and the Kook for Puerto San Francisquito on the Baja. We started at 8 am for a 50 mile run south. Jay sent us off blowing his conch shell which echoed off the walls of the harbor.
We averaged about 6.5 knt under motor and sail. Winds were light from 5-10kts.. Saw some gray whales along the way in Bahia Animas; also the normal porpoises surfing with us from time to time.
Puerto San Francisquita is very pretty. There are 2 coves with magazine cover white beaches with what look-like lime stone caves above the beach, a larger bay and a small nearly enclosed inner bay good for one boat. No boats but us. We by-passed this bay and ran around the corner to Santa Teresa to anchor on a 3 mile white sand beach in the lee of a north wind. Sting rays (black) were all over in the shallows. We'd been told to do the "shuffle" this time of year so we didn't step on anything "nasty". As we walked along the beach, we would watch our shadow cross fish, crabs and sting rays in the shallows. Off they would run into deeper waters. The crabs were by far the fastest.
