Starting the second night out of Bora Bora to Palmerston. Swells were large last night but long so just rolly. Wind was up and down all night. Low of 5 knots all the way to 33 knots. We are making good speed. Ran 130 nm from leaving at noon to noon today. I expect that we will do about the same over the night. We measure from noon to noon usually. It's quite a bit of work on the wheel as our course changes as we ride up and fall off the swell. Every 10th swell or so will dump the wind out of the sails so we start over getting back on course.
Big Red is doing a good job steering but she needs help with the waves which keeps us at the wheel most times. We are getting used to the shift work again--but we haven't gotten there yet. Wendy reminded me that we haven't had any long crossing for three months. She's right, I guess we got spoiled. I guess it's the price we pay to see places that no one else can get to. All is good time for me to take a nap before my first shift (9-12; then 3-7am).
