Anchored in Roscoe Cove
21 June 2011 | Roscoe Cove
We've spent the past two days in Roscoe Cove, a cove completed surrounded by forest and steep slopes. In fact, it's even landlocked at low tide. The pass the at the entrance can only be negotiated at high tide because it dries out at low tide thus trapping us inside the cove until the next high tide making the water deep enough to pass. Paul and Kim from Quan Yin are here, too. Kind of neat seeing a sistership to Thor in the same anchorage...the boats look great! Lorrie and I took a nice little walk to nearby Black Lake. The water is just about warm enough to swim in, but with air temperature only about 70 degrees, it would be a little chilly. The next day, we joined Paul and Kim for a hike, climb actually, to Mt. Llanover. This hike covered about 3 and a half miles to an elevation of about 2200 feet . We passed by a pond with a beaver damn on the way. There were plenty of cut trees where they had knawed them though with their sharp teeth. The hike was fun, great views at the top and great conversation along the way. Later, after we had returned to the boat, we were offered use of Quan Yin's kayaks and Lorrie and I paddled around the cove for an hour. Great fun! We're definitely putting kayaks on our Christmas list!
