Getting Ready

We are working on getting ready to sail on through the Caribbean soon. It's painfully expensive to fill our stores with food, equipment and spares. We don't expect to have access to reasonable prices until Pamama - in November. Our next major shopping location will then probably be New Zealand - a year later!
Two major items that we are adding are a water maker and a satellite phone. I finished two days of install work on our Katadyn 160E water maker only to discover that the casing is cracked! I talked to Defender about it and they should be getting a new unit out on Monday. I hope and expect that they will cover the high shipping cost both ways to replace the unit.
I ordered the Iridium 9555 from Ocens, and it will be here tomorrow. Our iPhone ATT accounts will be closed when we leave the US Virgin Islands.
We are still anchored in Salinas - it has great protection from the trade winds, access to inexpensive rental cars, and a very nice bar, where cruisers hang out and talk about where they are going. We hope to be moving east by next weekend with a stop in Fajardo to pick up several packages at the marina there.
We will then spend some time on Culebra. From there we will have easy access back to Fajardo via an inexpensive ferry for our final provisioning.
