GEORGE TOWN, GREAT EXUMA
13 December 2011 | George Town
Cheryl - Windy (of course)
We have started to settle into our new home, at least home for probably a couple of months. I know I am constantly complaining about the wind, but once again it is very windy, right now gusting to 30 mph.
We are anchored off Monument Beach which is on Stocking Island. The dinghy ride to George Town is about a mile and a half from where we are anchored. There are two restaurant/bars on Stocking Island, Chat N Chill and St. Francis Resort. You can get a $5.00 hamburger, which is much better than the $18.00 burger that we got on Norman's Cay. We are using the internet at St. Francis which is also where people get together to play Texas Hold Em on Tuesday and Thursday nights and Sunday afternoons.
Exuma Markets in George Town is a well stocked grocery store with prices that are not outrageous. Free water at the dinghy dock in Lake Victoria. We went there our second day here and it was blowing pretty hard. We were wet head to toe from the dinghy ride, when we got to the entrance to Lake Victoria the wind and tide was opposite which creates "a rage". Don't want to do that again.
We volunteered along with 5 other boats this morning to help clean up the beach party area near where we are anchored. The other thing people do here is to meet at 2:00 each day at Volleyball Beach, next to Chat N Chill. We went a couple of days ago, Bill said he was going to play volleyball but we never made it out of the bar!
Right now there about 80 boats anchored off Stocking Island, we hear there are up to 500 boats for Regatta in February.
Trying to talk Bill into putting up some of our LED Christmas lights on the boat.
Next time we have internet I will post a bunch of pics.
