We got underway this morning after saying goodbye to our new friends in Provodenciales and headed out across the Caicos banks to the southeast towards South Caicos island and it's main settlement, Cockburn (Co-burn?) Harbor. We had to motor-sail part of the way, having both the sails up to catch what wind there was but augmenting our speed with the engine to maintain at least 5 knots. However we did have some periods during the day where the wind would sustain a decent speed and believe me, turning off the engine and hearing noting but the wind in the sails and the waves lapping against the hull is a sound that never ceases to remind us why we love sailing and cruising. The Caicos banks are littered with coral heads and the depths are normally under 10 feet so travelling at night is not recommended, so timing our trip during the day was essential.
