Another new Harbor

03 April 2010 | Cockburn Harbor, South Caicos
Carl
It's always exiting to enter a new harbor, one that we've never seen before. We have only our charts and cruising guides (and any local knowledge we can gleen from others) to go by but every mile and turn along the way still something unknown to us. We try to picture what the new place will be like but seldom do it justice. Cockburn (pronounced Co-burn) Harbor did not disappoint us and we anchored among several other cruiser boats along with a commercial vessel at the dock and local fishing boats along the quay wall. Others in the anchorage immediately acknowledged our arrival and like kids on a new playground we joined up and gathered with several others to visit a local restaurant for drinks and dinner. We followed their lead through the little streets out to the point where the restaurant overlooked the harbor. The food this time around was not very impressive but the company was great, and we traded stories and found common threads in our adventures that we're weaving together to make our cruise south to the Caribbean a memorable success. We'll be here through the weekend when we hope for a weather window to stay open and allow us to cross to the Dominican Republic and into the CARIBBEAN SEA!!! We're very excited.
