Ponce' Reprovision
25 April 2010 | Ponce', Puerto Rico
Carl
We're taking advantage of the US-style stores here to replenish our supply of non-perishable foods and needed boat parts while enjoying the second largest city in Puerto Rico, Ponce'. We actually walked around a US-style
Mall yesterday, which was like being in a time warp after visiting the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas. The backing and influence of the US is very apparent here, but the country has some beautiful scenery as well and the people are very friendly. We instinctively say "Hola" in Spanish to the Hispanic people but they reply with "Hi"! We're scoping out the best places to buy quantities of food; they don't have a Sam's Club in Ponce' but they do have something similar. We plan to rent a car and travel to the West Marine store in Fajardo on the east coast to pick up a package we had shipped there, and hope to visit San Juan and tour the old section of one of the oldest cities in the region. There's many local foods and music to enjoy and we're trying to make the most of it all.
