Along with 8 other cruisers, Carrie and I enjoyed a fairly easy hike today into the hills around Chaguaramas to the sight of an old satellite antenna. The road leading up the mountain passed through some remarkable stands of gigantic bambo that bend to form archways over the road. Hence the name Bamboo Cathedral. The heat and humidity were lessened somewhat with the shade afforded by the bamoo growths. Normally without anyone harvesting the bamboo it continues to grow very quickly until the weight causes it to fall. We hear a bamboo stalk can grow as much as 18 inches a day. No one wanted to sit long enough to see if they could see it growing!
