Lazy day in safe harbour
Windy
17 May 2012 | Port Louis
Had a good sail from Benodet yesterday. We were hard on the wind (10-12 knots) with very little sea. The wind was very cold but the sun was warm. We saw quite a lot other boats for a change. We nearly got caught up in some trimarans racing from Concarneau to Lorient so we had a grandstand view of them flying their floats. Unfortunately we couldn't quite keep up but maintained a steady 6 knots with a bit of tidal help. All day we were getting warnings of a "grand frais" (force 7) for the early hours of Thursday so decided that Port Louis would be a good place to spend the next couple of days! Arrived just before 6pm - plenty of spare berths on the visitors pontoon. Enjoyed a G&T in the early evening sunshine in the cockpit.

We wandered into the town this morning and discovered that today is Ascension Day so it is a national holiday. There is also a 2-day arts festival with theatre, circus, music etc. at various locations in the town. Wi-fi in the marina is free but you need a password. The overnight low season charge is €13 so not a bad place to spend a few days. We seem to be the only British boat here.
