"Flat Jennie"
22 September 2010 | Nidri, Levkas Island
Whilst Jennie begins her much needed recuperation, Kath and Amy take off take care of some errands and walk the little town of Nidri. Of course we want Jen with us but, since we can't have 'the real thing', we bring "Flat Jennie" along for the tour. It is not a very flattering name nor do we particularly like the reference, but many USA elementary school kids know "Flat Stanley", a little guy they carry around to interesting places and create stories about, so we do much the same.
The shop keepers and passersby are quite curious with our photo icon, but we're determined to bring Jen to as many places as we can. She goes to church, souvenir shopping, to do our laundry, buy fresh meat from the butcher (yep, that's a fresh baby lamb that later goes on our grill), to the bakery for baklava and visits Cap D'Or for a drink with Pam. We have a fun time, think "Flat Jen" does too, but we're pretty sure our pal is not a happy camper back aboard Sangaris as it is only day #2 of her recovery.
Cruisers' Notes: In September, although not quite "off-season" we were able to tie 'stern-to' to the charter fleet dock (we used Neilson's) for 10 Euro/night which included water & electricity. The docks are right in town and there is good access for most anything. Laundry is near Neilson's, couple blocks off the water and is 5Euro/load to wash. Ionian Boat Assistance has a crew of knowledgeable maintenance staff and a good, albeit pricey, shop for most parts.
