One BIG sand bar

31 March 2010 | Galliot Cay
March 26th, 2010 Galliot Cay to Oven Rock, Exumas

Jim and Beth mentioned last week that they had visited a sand bar in this area that was dry land at low tide. Low tide was scheduled for around 11am today so we watched and sure enough as the water lowered we could see sand to our SW.

It was a couple of miles away and it a little bumpy, but we dinghied over with Steve and Kim to check it out. The bar was 20 to 30 meters wide and about 2 kilometers in length. We walked the northern half out and back picking up shells and sand dollars.

After a couple of hours we returned to the boats, weighed anchors, and sailed up to Oven Rock which is just north of Little Farmers Cay. Our afternoon was spent
Mostly reading. We did make a trip ashore for a walk and a to pick a few palm fornds.
