April 7th, 2010 Sampson Cay to Big Majors Spot, Exumas
After a big breakfast, coffee and the proper amount of wasted time, we weighed anchor and sailed back south to Big Majors. There was going to be a beach party there tonight and we needed to have Dave and Debbie get the feel of one.
In the afternoon I replaced the zinc on our propshaft and Davey and I worked quite a while cleaning our hull. We got the starboard side mostly finished and a good start on the port. There was nothing hard, the bottom paint is effective on barnacles, but there were some patches of soft growth the needed to be removed. We use scrub pads made for cleaning grills which take things off with out being too abrasive on the sloughing paint.
In the mid afternoon, I baked some potatoes and pork chops which we had for an early dinner, knowing that if we ate at the party it would be lots of junk.
The party was interesting. The majority of the folks were owners of very large power boats which seem to have taken over this anchorage these days. They were nice enough and brought along very good food, but we didn't know very many of them.
After an hour or so we excused ourselves and returned to "Sapphire" for a couple of games of Rummikub and then some euchre.

After wasting some time on the boat with coffee, breakfast and reading, we went in to the Marina for some fuel and groceries. It took a while to complete all of our jobs so by the time we finished it was late in the morning.
We loaded up the dinghy with snorkeling equipment and headed out around some of the rocky islands in the area. We swam until all of us were a little tired and then worked our way to a beach where we sat in the water .... and on the sand for a while out of the wind and waves.
When we returned Kathy made a plate of cheese, crackers, and smoked oysters for a snack.
For dinner I whipped up a large bowl of Lobster Alfredo and Kathy made a salad. Later we dinghied over to "Kokomo" for drinks and chocolate cake. Steve and Kim joined us, as well as Denny and Diane who were friends of Roland and Leda's.
We left reasonably early to return for another euchre game.

We had coffee and then some breakfast. Davey and I hauled a load of water to top off our tank and then we worked on a few boat projects before weighing anchor and heading north to Sampson Cay to hopefully watch the NCAA finals at the bar there.
We anchored in close and then had some lunch. Our afternoon was spent reading and later called in for reservations at the resort dining room. At around 6 p.m. we went in and joined "Fine Lion" and "Kokomo" for dinner. They couldn't receive the game, so we returned to the boat and listened. However, Kathy was the only one to make it to the end of the game.

On Sunday we hung around the boat most of the morning reading but had a early lunch and took off just before noon with "Kokomo" and "Fine Lion" for a little exploring. We headed toward Dotham Cut but turned into a cove on the south side. From there we followed a small creek that lead out through some mangroves to the Sound. We tied up the dinghies and waded the last few yards to the shore ... which wasn't at all pretty.
However, it was sufficiently off the beaten path for us to find some neat shells and one sea bean. After wandering around for an hour or so.... Roland, Leda, Debbie and Davey climbed the bluff for a much better view of the rocky shore and the Sound, we headed out the creek and across the cut to an island were there are lots of iguanas, some ranging up to about 3 feet. We stayed there hiking the beach and swimming for quite a while before heading back to the boats.
By now the day was about finished so we read for a while and then made fish tacos for dinner. Later we played euchre... with Kathy and Davey pulling off the upset.
