We had higher winds then predicted and thus larger seas, but fortunately we had the wind on our beam or behind us, so doable with a reef in the main and the jib furled a bit and poled out. Due to those higher winds, we were moving - faster than expected. We were maneuvering our way into Samana in the hours when the sun was just starting to light the sky. We were anchored by 0730. Dennis immediately laid down for a nap as he had just gotten off watch. Cheecho the local "expediter" came by to say he would bring the Customs officials to our boat at 0900. They finally arrived a bit after noon, apologizing because they had so many boats arrive today.

We stayed on the boat all afternoon doing little projects. Around 4pm we got the dinghy down and the outboard mounted and decided to head into town. While we were doing that prep a fellow from the boat next to us was calling across the water to us trying to have a conversation. They were from Toronto and were headed in the opposite direction. We gathered up a few magazines we had picked up about things to do, maps, etc. for places we had just visited and took them over to their boat. We had a bit of a conversation but not long as they were headed out in just about 30 min. to cross the Mona passage to Puerto Rico. Very nice folks. We exchanged boat cards and went on our way. We walked town and settled in at this restaurant where we have WIFI. The AT&T wifi that we purchased in St. Croix sent us a message upon arrival that they don't work here. Onto the next wifi solution!

We plan to do another overnight trip to Luperon, where we will check out of Dominican Republic. We will head out sometime before noon tomorrow but not as early as this last trip, giving ourselves plenty of time for 'good wind' that gets us there faster than we imagined. From there we will head north to the Turks and Caicos, where we will be joined by Scott and Lisa Burns, friends from Santa Barbara.
