Thanksgiving in Bonaire..& our 1st guest arrives!
16 November 2007
Our 2nd sail on our new boat - bigger seas and higher winds than 2 days ago, but this time it's fun versus unnerving. 20 - 28 knots with 4' to 6' seas. Having fun with the boat & the sea, experimenting with how over we can heel the boat, trying to steer down & surf the waves (they weren't nearly big enough for that, but it was fun nonetheless), and getting a feel for things. Arrived in Bonaire & picked up our 1st mooring (we'd only anchored up to that point). No problems. Over the next 10 days or so we foiund lots of new boat projects as we began using the boat's systems. Also met up with our friend Doug - who immediately went to work on "the head" (aka the toilet) - what a guy!. We took one day off during all of this - the guys went diving and I hung out and read my book...and then somehow it was Thanksgiving already. We enjoyed a fine turkey dinner at Bob & Barbara's new home - the previous owners of our boat. About 20 "cruisers" packed into their condo, where we ate and drank for hours..very fun! Before setting sail for Aves de Sotavento, our next destination, we also had a renaming ceremony with Bob & Barbara including a champagne toast & offering to the sea gods! Enkidu is now officially "Scappatella"!
