Neptune has accepted our gift of friendship (a double gin on ice straight into the sea!) and is smiling upon us again! The winds have improved and was pretty steady throughout the day since 4am this morning! We had a great day of sailing today - genneker was up for a straight 14 hours non stop (and still going) and we did an average of about 6.2kts during that time which is HEAVEN after all the windless days and nights!! Besides the winds...this is as big a windfall.... Ben and Johann each caught a dorado (dolphin fish) yesterday - huge once - a male and female, but when Ben gaffed his fish the hook of the gaff broke off in the fish and hence we could not gaff the feisty female and lost her just as she was almost dragged out of the water onto the steps of the boat.... just as well ...we just would not have had enough freezing / cooling facilities for both! The excitement was huge! Cameras and shouting and laughter and orders to 'stop the engine!' and then 'no...not stop just slow down till we got them hooked' and it was just so much adrenaline rushing ...oh my oh my!! The best of it all is...the new technique is working a treat ...no more blood on the deck at all!!!That impresses Captain J tremendously!(The fish picture will be uploaded as soon as we have the means to do so! It's a beauty!) Amazing how the spirits can lift after a single fish got caught... The ideal will certainly be a fish every 3rd day just to get the moods right... we will be running out of antidepressants if that is not the case... (just kidding)LOL
So last night...the menu changed suddenly (as they caught them just before sunset)to fresh fish of the day fillets on the BBQ!! We had a few left over that became beautiful fishcakes (by chef Johann) for lunch today and you guess it wrong...it was fish again for dinner tonight!! ha ha!!! BUT... this time we had a chinese stir-fry with veggies and fish fillets in Oyster and soya sauce on noodles!!Just to die for! (Ben was the chef tonight). They (the boys) all need a little supervision around the kitchen but overall they are already very handy and I do get the feeling that they are enjoying it too...
So, for the moment...thanks to all the main players and a wink to Neptune! We will be sleeping easy tonight.. :-) First Mate to Scolla and Scolamanzi
