Surviving on a tight budget when cruising the Caribbean

Having a tight budget is not all that bad if you are on a yacht where you can live happily cheap! But from time to time it just happens that you cannot believe how quickly your money has been ripped out from underneath you! Well - it is not a" rip-off" - because you should have known better...There are two very important things to remember is you are in the Caribbean! No 1: Find out a price of anything you want to do or buy before doing so ...Find out if it is in US$ or EC$!!! Big difference! The meal was quoted in US$ and we assumed it was EC$!! That made it almost triple the price we thought. No2: You will be offered goods and services ALL the time - it can be very intimidating - DO NOT let it be! Say NO (sounds like my Mom's warnings when I was a teenager!) and walk away! They catch you time and time again and keep you to "a promise to use them" for whatever service - be polite, say no and move on!
I took us a while to get used to the ways of surviving a budget trip in the Caribbean - please learn as we go!!!
Hi everyone - Scolamanzi will still be sitting pretty in the bluest of blues between Union and Happy Island as we enter the New Year! We will have a Rum Cocktail and Pina Colada on the greatest year to come and will have you all in mind! As they say here - Yeah Man, Be Happy! May it Be you Happy Year!!
