Bequia -where we meet LAFKO again

04 January 2011 | Bequia
Henriette
Bequia means "The Island of Clouds' and has a rich whaling history! In fact (to my shock!) are they still killing whales her - about 3 a year - I guess that is not too many ...but I still think it is 3 too many to my liking...who wants to wear shark teeth around their necks if there ar diamonds anyway? :-)
Bequia's main town is called PORT ELIZABETH!! and has a beautiful "sea front" of restaurants and a cute little (dangerously wet) walkway where you need to get your timing right not to be splashed by a wave ...only little once that might put a wet mark on a very strategic place on your pants ...but it is different and unique. / restaurants but the locals on the sides are still living from a day to day sale of veggies and handmade necklaces or Taxi services - you can spot the poverty amongst them in spite of enormous houses amongst the hills (swallow houses - the once that will only have people living there for the season). We are about to have a tour of the Island to see the rest. I will certainly update this blog if I change my mind on this current view...
We had a quick get together with our French Sailing Friends (on the yacht LAFKO) that we have met in St Helena! The crew has changed slightly from 6 men to 4 men and 4 women - and only 3 of the originals are left - but it was still great having a beer on the beach with them and share a "Post Xmas Cake" with the Frenchies at sunset on the beach! Was just great!
After this island we need to move on to St Vincent.....hope it will be save enough for all of us to leave the boat ...maybe not??
Will keep you posted...
