We are trying to stay true to Route 66 and follow the old road as much as possible. Today, we were greatly rewarded with some of the most incredible scenery to date!





You can see where the new highway was blasted through the rock, but Route 66 meandered around it!



We stopped at the Uranium Mining Museum in Grants, NM. This is the drill bit that was used to make the tunnels.



Here we are with our tour guide. He worked for the mine for over 40 years. He started as a young man when there was no regard for safety & radiation levels.... We are glad that he is still here to share the story!



They have an underground exhibit that very closely replicates what is was like to be a miner in the early days. It was eerie & exciting to be lead through the mine shaft. Even the underground lunch room was there!

After the mine, we continued on our way and crossed the Continental Divide - where the rivers flow changes - the west flows into the Pacific Ocean and the East flows to the Atlantic Ocean!
