We said "see you soon" to Letitgo & Sula Mac today - big gusty winds & lots & lots of rain has made the anchorage in Tahuata rather uncomfortable. According to Laurent on Letitgo, we should have been there last week. No rain & no wind - of course!
We arrived in Taiohae Bay (ta-i-o-hae) at 0305 - about 84 nm from Tahuata Isle.
Here is Winterlude at anchor in Taiohae Bay.
We were in good company here - S/Y Athos is also at anchor here....
She is a 203 ft schooner with a 35 ft beam - she is one of the largest schooners in the world! Built in Holland in 2010 by Hoek Design Naval Architects B.V..... just sayin! : )
An arrival in port means two things for sure.... walk about the marina & village to see the sights. We saw this tiki on the way to find the market.
... and lunch. We met a very nice kitten!
We rented a car and went on a tour of the island and here are some of the views we enjoyed.
Winterlude is one of the wee boats anchored waaay down there.
And from the mountains to the beach...
There are an unbelievable amount of archaeological sites all over the Marquesas. We went to see one of the largest.
This is one of the largest banyan trees.
The tikis are all around....
... and Kilroy!
and when you think that no one is looking...
The signage to one of the historical sites is actually placed a bit farther down the road from where the actual road leading in to the spot....
We did find our way in and we saw.... more tikis!
We saw this pair rooting their way down along the road.
