Hello La Paz! Hello Scot Free Eh! Hello to the crew of s/v Giada Marina! Giada & Alba were very glad to have Pep-Eh back on the dock.
This season, it is time to get Scot Free Eh hauled out of the water and get her bottom painted. We chose Atalanta boat yard in La Paz. Our friend Graham took this photo of us on our way there. That is one beautiful sailboat. and yes, I am biased!
The conditions were perfect for the haul out. The entrance to the yard is narrow but deep enough for our 7' draft.
The process is very very different than at home. At home, a sling is used to lift the boat straight up out of the water. Here, they have a huge tractor and a huge trailer. Gulp! She's going on that?
The trailer operates independently of the tractor and is let down the ramp. The position of the boat and the trailer is very important. It must line up.
We may have been just a wee bit stressed out while we watched and waited and waited and watched the process.
Almost out!
and she's out! Whew! We knew it would be nerve racking, but this was on another level.
There she goes!
While the boat was on the "hard", we moved onto the motorhome. We stayed at the Aqua Marina RV park in La Paz. This is the same place that Patsy & Pete stayed in last season. Our set-up is on the far left of the photo.
We made good use of the upper deck here at the park. For American Thanksgiving, we invited some of our cruiser friends to join us. Mary Louisa joined us for a sunset cocktail. She is the proprietress, is 83 years young and full of stories about her life in La Paz.

It was a wonderful gathering with delicious food from all. To top it off, we had another amazing sunset.
While the boat is out of the water, we had the boot stripes repainted.... this is kind of like a home renovation - might as well do this and that while she's out... She is a well read boat for sure!!
We had the keel repaired, the bottom sanded down, the rudder sanded and the propeller & shaft polished up. She's going to be fast when she's back in the water.
Time for a break! We were hosted by On the Double for margaritas... Tammy asked for a small one - and Al poured her a small one!
There was a dinner at Tres Virgenes. Julie & Greg joined us for a bon voyage dinner for Elaine & Jamie as they start their trip back to California.
