SY Scrabbler
Oh dear....

28 June 2012 | PomarĂ£o
We sailed up the river in style under headsail making 3 to 5 kn. It is so peaceful gliding along to birdsong and watch the trees, flowers and scraggy mountains glide by. A little while up the river we found David from SY Treoggin and had a short stop for a chat. We had met him last year as part of the single-hander crowd coming down the coast. The pilot book ran out of pages and we started to look at our hand-drawn maps. After scraping the bottom once by identifying the wrong road sign to line up with the lone eucalyptus we dropped the hook at PomarĂ£o, went ashore and joined the locals to watch the Portugal vs Spain semi-final. What a disaster for Portugal! We so wanted them to win this match and also overall. The country deserves it. But it was not meant to be. Back on-board Scrabbler we found it way too hot to sleep inside and so we padded the cockpit with cushions and duvets, laying on our backs, watching the stars and listening to the all-night concert. Frogs and cicadas competed across the very still river and a short while later James joined in but unfortunately not with his clarinet and slightly out of tune. Good thing was, it kept the mozzies at bay. Not a single on in sight all night long! Today is a little bit of TLC for Scrabbler on the menu and with the afternoon high-water we will sail further up the river.
