SY Scrabbler
The end
Jana
29 June 2012 | Mértola
isn't really the end after all. The river splits and continues. Unfortunately our plan to stay up here for a bit has been spoilt by Vodafone by not plastering this part of Portugal with mobile masts. No internet = no work and from Monday on James has to be online again. Never mind...We had a lovely motor cruise quite a long way up the river as it turned out. After dropping two anchors we took the dinghy to Mértola and were there after half an hour only! What a beautiful town it is. Most definitely worth the trip up the river. We are a bit jealous of Fred in Dream On because he could go all the way to Mértola easily! We just had lunch after climbing the castle, used the restaurants internet and are now slowly meandering through the quaint old streets probably getting lost in this maze of alleys and secret stairs. Later we'll float down back to Scrabbler and tomorrow we sail back down the river. The wind conveniently changed and comes from the North now. Perfect conditions to travel noiseless and watch the birds.
